I am completely aggrieved, disgusted and bewildered at the rate of sectarian fires which have been eating up Bahraini society especially over the last 5 years or so. These sectarian feelings however have not come out of a vacuum, they must have been nurtured over several years, possibly over generations, if Bandargate is to be believed, and there is not reason whatsoever to disbelieve it, especially in the absence of objective denial by the authorities in Bahrain.

and I'm not really complaining. In fact I'm enjoying the sense of pain! I know I know, but I'm no masochist really, it's just that contented feeling that you have worked hard and have given it your best and hope that things will turn out well, as I'm fairly certain they will, fingers crossed.
I spent the whole of Saturday in the garden, doing this:
This my friends is the new border I have created. If you want to know what it looked like before, then all you have to do is look at the other side... small, narrow and completely uninteresting. What I did is shape it as you see in the picture above, and stuffed it with petunias, probably 80 or so which I bought in four colours: white, red, purple and pink, and laid them out in a design which I hope to show you in a few weeks time. I've even got a white petunia in the jar in the middle, and the reason will (hopefully) be apparent when I post follow-up pictures.
Apart from the petunias, I've got tall grass which I placed at the apexes of the curves to provide backdrop.
Of course, I had to redo the complete drip system as well as move the sprinklers a bit inside. Unfortunately I have had ot cancel one which was right in the centre in front of the jar, but I'm sure it's not necessary as that patch is now serviced by 10 sprinklers so I should still get good coverage.
I've also planted some yellow and orange marigolds in other flower beds, but offset them with the shocking red and purple petunias. I hope the effect will look okay, if not, then I'll yank them out and put a different variety.. it's still very early in the season to do this!

I spied a few water features in the garden shop next to our office a few days ago, this one grabbed my attention:
I almost decided where it should go, but wanted my wife's opinion first (yes, permission!) so she was good enough to drop by the garden shop this afternoon so I can show her what's available. She too - thankfully - thought that this is the one and left it to me to place it in our garden. I paid the guys and they agreed to deliver it within the hour!
Lucky me that today is Monday, that's the day my part time gardener drops in to do the odd jobs, so when they did deliver it, not only my regular gardener was around, but also my previous gardener and their manager! So I set them all to it and after selecting where it should go, we got the shovels and wheel-barrow and started working.
Once it was all installed, it was time to fill it up and connect the pump to the electricity and give it its first whirl..
It works!
After the guys have left, I decided to just sit on the grass and listen to the sound of the waterfall...
